Geographic Diffusion

Dr. Milton E Harvey and Dr. Jay Lee

This project examines urban sprawl as a geographically diffusing phenomenon. Using parcel-level data from Geauga County in Northeast Ohio, this project attempts to quantitatively model the trends and patterns of spatiotemporal changes in how land parcels are converted from vacant to built-up urbanized areas.

Of special interest is the adaptation of the Bass Model, a widely used analytical tool in marketing research, in this project to enable not only the modeling of spatiotemporal changes in land conversion but also prediction of future trends.

As this is an on-going project, comments, suggestions, or collaboration will be highly appreciated.
